a very happy new year to each and every one of you! i hope you were able to enjoy some lovely celebrations over the holidays with friends and family...we certainly did in this neck of the woods!

and since we have just turned the bend to greet the new year, it is now time to say a fond farewell to my etsy shop geschichtenvonkat as the big move gets underway! i have been looking forward to this move for a while but will also be a little sad to see the ole place go, sniff! i'm not yet set on a closing date but i have opened up the new shop, called the story of kat, and I hope you will visit me there as i fill it up with lovely new items over the next month!

keeping cozy

i've been cranking out new draft stoppers for my etsy shop since it's getting to be that time of year when you don't want to feel that cold air seeping through the cracks. these ones have velcro on them and come empty so shipping is cheaper and it's easy to pull off the outer bag for cleaning. really though, i just vaccume mine off every once in a while and it works like a charm.

i can't tell you how useful these have been whether we've been living in a small city apartment and want to block the neighbor's noise and cooking smells (or, ahem, my own overuse of garlic...), or now that we are in an apartment within a big old house that comes complete with cold drafts and creaking steps. sometimes i even use them to block off rooms that we don't want to air condition in the summer...because you know, i'm thrifty like that.

i'll be posting them later in the week and of course i always take custom orders if you need a specific length. o i almost forgot to mention: i'm clearing out the shop completely to make way for new items so check out the 30% OFF SECTION! i'm beginning to look for a part-time job in hopes of starting some grad school classes after christmas so now's the time to clean house..err, shop i mean.

stop the presses: i am actually cleaning my workroom!

and i don't just mean moving a pile from one desk to another! not that i would EVER do that...ahem. i'm about halfway done now and it feels so good. well, the cleaning part isn't exactly fun but it does feel great to see the results. i'm so lucky to actually have my own workspace and am hopeful that soon we'll be able to get that guest futon so i can set out my handmade nation pillow in a proper place of honor!

this odd streak of motivation for housekeeping has had other amazing results...last night i set up some marinated chicken for tonight's dinner and started some fenugreek sprouts so that we'll have fresh greens for our falafel pitas later this week. i've always done brocoli or bean sprouts before and was pleasantly surprised by the deep aroma of curry that emanated from the fenugreek seeds as i prepped the jam jar on the windowsill...cannot wait to try them!

off i go though to feed the cats their lunch, refill my chai, and return to the cleaning frenzy in my workroom. tomorrow: pictures of our most beautiful wedding cake. an amazingly talented friend made it and i'm convinced that ace of cakes would hire her in the blink of an eye!

Thank you to everyone who helped to make it a great year for my little etsy shop—It's truly been a joy to have you all as customers, blog followers, friends, and etsy co-workers! I consider myself very lucky to be able to supplement my income by doing that which I absolutely love, that is, creating one of a kind handmade goods to beautify ones life and home.

I am in the middle of working out a redesign of my etsy shop which I hope will allow me to further define my motifs and a sense of continuity among my items. Many of my current items will still be offered but with a facelift of sorts and of course many new designs will replace those items being discontinued.

Our sale section is growing! I've dropped prices on a whole slew of good stuff for ya and am going to see to it that the deals keep coming!

I've also dropped shipping prices around the whole shop (for keeps!). Only $1 international shipping and NO domestic shipping costs for all and any custom lined envelopes! Plus, I'm working on offering better combined shipping prices for all items...it takes a while to individually edit the whole shop so this is a work in progress, please stand by :)
