crafting paper cranes

when we first started thinking about our wedding i stumbled across these amazing photos of one couples very unique day. i was so inspired by it and how they made their special day so beautiful.homemade.natural.sweet.funny.vintage and diy!

one specific idea i'm "borrowing" is the hanging paper cranes which are a symbol of honor, loyalty, and peace which for us makes them a beautiful and fitting decoration...which we can make ourselves to boot! i have a little leftover blue and white polka dot paper from our invitations so i can be thrifty and use that up but i also picked up a variety of beautifully colored paper from papersource...a store which i love and can (and have) gone broke in!

so all afternoon i have been searching the ole internets trying to find some clear directions on how to actually make these. there are some really confusing instructions out there and my first couple tries were, admittedly, a bit atrocious, but with the help of this great little website, i think i've finally got it! ahh, thank you internets for saving me some cash and a trip to the bookstore where i would have been sorely tempted to empty my savings account completely!

it's definitely easier to do with the thinner japanese papers and i'm just going to use some white yarn from my stash to string them up all purdy like. i can't wait to see them blowing in the trees in the backyard!
