the coolest box ever.

a box you say? not just any box my friends, only the coolest box ever! as you might remember, we had some lovely guests staying with this past weekend and i had my socks just about knocked off when they showed me this incredibly awesome sewing box! and then they told me it was for me to keep!!! my friend found it being unused at her mother's house and decided it had my name written all over it. ha, how awesome is that?!

it's got this glorious floral-folklore inspired woodburned design on the top panels (which open like little doors) and then CHECK THIS OUT:

um, yeah. awesome, i know.

i've always been a knick-knack and box type of girl (i love keeping pretty little things in secret compartments and having everything in order) so you can imagine how much I LOVE THIS BOX! and now my fiance will not have to stumble over my sewing projects which always seem to skip down from my workroom to a cozy spot on the couch in front of the tv. i do so many hand-stitched details on my pieces so this will be not only beautiful, but such a handy way of storing my notions and such so that we can all stop sitting on pins and needles...literally, oops!

ooo, and here is a detail of a new yard of fabric i picked up to use in the shop...the wizard of oz story has always been a favorite of mine since i was a little girl and i couldn't resist! it will be perfect to make compress' out of.

magnets and memories

i've been working on rephotographing a lot of items in my shop now that we have all these lovely sunny windows in our house. the use of natural light is really a big improvement i think while the other side of my perfectionist's brain says, "there is always room for improvement!"

so far, i have gotten through all the fabric magnets and i'm especially happy with these "action shots." ahh, haha, well they at least show the magnets in use and how fun looking it is to have these guys on ones fridge...i suppose that's as much action as magnets can expect to see! The little matroshka magnets in the shot i've included here are actually holding up a picture of me and some friends from waaay back when during vacation bible school—that's me in the middle there with the big floppy hat! i love how the little blonde girl seems to have great medical ambitions while the other two of us are much more interested in being generally fabulous.

warm up with a gvk compress

Slush fell from the sky all day on Sunday. I'm pretty sure that's what it was anyways...gross! With these dreary days, I holed up in my craft room cutting material for and sewing together new compress'. O the feeling of cutting through an unused piece of material...it's almost sinful, ha. You can now find some of these turning up in the shop and more are on their way. A few, as I mentioned before, have been backed in a very soft polka dot flannel for a bit of luxury in winter, especially nice if you happen to catch a cold and need to feel better (which i hope you don't!).
