catching up

well, it's been a few days since we've talked! i had a great time with my mom who was visiting and got some work done too. not as much as i would have liked..c'est la vie..i'm always playing catch up it seems!

warm and sunny days are becoming more and more frequent here in the north shore area of massachusetts and i am longing to plan a short camping trip for a weekend soon. it's still a bit chilly, especially at night but no more worries of frost i think so perhaps we could manage it in our heavy duty l.l. bean bags! there's nothing like camping or gardening to give you that simple feeling of peace that is living near to the earth.

the painting above reminds me of that feeling though and so i thought it'd be nice to share it with you. it's just a little guy...about 4x5 inches...and i have it sitting up on top of a shelf in my workroom. the magenta ground was done beforehand as i was experimenting with using different un-natural colors as grounds for my outdoor paintings. the rest i did while sitting on a lake michigan sand dune during a landscape painting seminar in college one summer and it still has flecks of sand which blew into my oil paints that day. the little figure and cottage were added in but everything else is done from sight as the waters grew rough towards the end of the day and the sky darkened. a good memory indeed if not the best painting in the world...someday i'll have to dig out some other photos from my portfolio to show you.

p.s. giveaway prizes are on their way out in the mail now :)

Great to have you back and I wanted to say how much I love my giveaway goodies! I took your advice and put the lavendar one in my knitting bag and, oh my! I can't believe I never thought of this, ever stitch releases loveliness! The compress is by my bed giving me good dreams and hopefully in the near future some "mommy time" lol. So thank you, they are beautiful.

What a pretty little painting! The best ones are most definitely the ones with strong feelings or memories in them. That's what makes them special! I would love to see more :)

I love that the sad blew into the paint to give it that texture....I'm such a texture girl.

The North Shore is one of my favorite parts of the Boston area. We take a trip up there as often as we can...although that isn't too often now that we don't have a car :(

i'll have to start working up a post on my portfolio for you jen, i've been wanting to share it for a while as i really do miss the fine art side of things!

bethany—we didn't have a car in DC either so it's odd having one now that we are out here..i know how you feel! do they have zip cars in boston? so affordable and they make little day jaunts outside the city so much more doable.
